Vantage Point

October 26, 2008

We just finished watching a very good movie this evening. The movie was Vantage Point. It had very novel concept of seeing events and then backtracking.

The move viewed one specific event from the eyes of about six different people. It would first show you the event, in this case, the assassination of the US President, from the viewpoint of one person. The movie would then backtrack in time and show you the same event from the perspective of a different person. Each time you saw the event from the viewpoint of someone else, you learned a bit more about the event.

The movie was very riveting and very, very enjoyable. The whole family, even Savannah, enjoyed watching it. It was intriguing to see the way the director revealed bit more information each time from the viewpoint of a different person. It definitely kept one’s attention for the duration.

The director was very careful though to not reveal to much information in each trackback, just a bit more information. It wasn’t too hard to get an idea of who was good and who was bad, but as it wasn’t a “who done it” type movie, it was craftily done so as to let your imagination go, yet maintain a good level of believability.

The movie featured a few big name stars plus some foreign talent. Dennis Quad, William Hurt, Forest Whitaker and Sigourney Weaver highlighted the cast. I don’t want to reveal any of the plot, but I can definitely recommend that you give this movie a watch. You will enjoy it!

Sean’s Football Season Comes to a Close

October 25, 2008

Today was the last game of the season for Sean’s football team. It ended much the way it began, on a bad note. They lost again today by a score of 45 – 14 to Benson. It also closed out a winless season for the kids.

The game today was never close as Benson raced out to an early 27 – 0 lead in the first quarter. The Huachucha City kids actually played them tough in the last minutes of the first quarter and the entire second quarter holding them scoreless and putting up 7 points themselves.

The second half was all Benson and the game was never really in doubt. I think I said this last time we played Benson, but they sure grow their kids big there. They have one 11 year that is 6′ 3″ tall – at 11 years?? And he is not a lanky or skinny 6′ 3″ but a well built tank. He ran over several kids when he carried the ball. Sean was actually one of the few kids who had success tackling him as he went low and cut him at the knees though he too missed him a few times.

It also figured that the last game of the season was also the hottest game of the season. The temperatures for the games have been surprisingly mild this season. Today, however, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the sun beat down on us in about a 90 temperature – still not too bad.

After the game, we headed to Sierra Vista for my once every three or four years shopping sprees. I really, really hate buying (spending money on) clothes. I hate even worse having to shop for them. So, I just don’t do it very often. I tend to have a minimal number of clothes and wear them until they are too ragged to wear. That time is now and I am just about out of wearable clothes for work and other functions, especially the upcoming cruise.

So, off we went and replenished my wardrobe. I don’t even want to know how many hundreds of dollars I spent – it would just depress me. Hopefully, I am set for clothes for another 3 or 4 years. Suzanne will likely have to pick up and item here or there, but I hope to not have to clothes shop for some time.
