158th Website Relaunched

Sorry for having been mostly silent lately, but I have been hard at work relaunching my America’s Army clan site, The 158th Regimental Combat Team.
Our clan has used the same basic site design for the last 18 months. It was time to do something different. I spent the last couple months coming up with a new design. The previous design was dark and very AA related. I wanted something less dark and more professional looking. Hopefully, I have accomplished this.
Another goal of mine was to change the site CMS from php-nuke (yuck) to another system. I chose WordPress, which this site runs on, for the new CMS. It has better security and is more efficient. It also gives me the ability to add some new features that while possible, would be more difficult to do in nuke.

Next on my list of things to do is a complete redesign of the Cruise Talk Central website. The traffic at that site has picked up considerably and it’s time to update the offerings we have there for our visitors. The new site will look less like a blog and more like a full featured cruise fan site. Stay tuned for more details…
Site Upgrade

Tonight, I upgraded Mr Papa’s World to the latest version of WordPress, the software that drives the site. This was a fairly major release and upgrade required. I had to make sure all of the mods I have done to the site still functioned.
There are still a few kinks to work out as not everything is quite right, but I wanted to get the site back online while I sorted those out. Please bear with me for a few days as I get everything back in total order.
A lot of this upgrade is under the covers. Site peformance should be enhanced and the ease at which I can manage the site has been increased. In the future, more site enhancements will be possible in thanks to some of the new hooks in the software that is just waiting to be utilized.
Now, I only have another five or six sites to upgrade…
