Sad But True Quotes

June 11, 2009

A friend sent me the quotes below today. I don’t usually post these kind of things, but frankly, today, they seem kind of apropos. I also don’t know if they are all “real” quotes or made up.

Stanley Cup Time

June 6, 2009

It’s Stanley Cup time again in the NHL and once again the Detroit Red Wings are playing for Lord Stanley’s Cup. I love watching the NHL finals, especially when the Red Wings are there. I don’t get a chance during the season to watch too many games but I always make it a point to watch when the playoffs and the Cup series arrive.

The final matchup is a rematch of last years Stanley Cup Finals between Detroit and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Its the first repeat match up in a long time. Detroit was victorious last season and I am hoping for a similar result this year.

Detroit jumped out to an early 2 – 0 lead in the series with me glued to the TV set watching. This whole playoff run they have done very good when I have watched. In fact, I hadn’t seen them lose a game in the playoffs. In fact, I still haven’t. All there losses had come when I didn’t watch the game. Unfortunately, the nights of game 3 and 4, Sean had a baseball game and I had too miss both games. Pittsburgh wont both of those games. I seem to be a good luck charm for the Red Wings.

So, I was a bit anxious tonight when I had to miss the game again tonight for Savannah’s Summer Dance Recital. I figured if I missed the game and the Red Wings lost, they were going to call me and tell me to make sure and see game 6. I was able to catch the first period when Detroit jumped out to 1 – 0 lead, but then had to head out. Luckily, I was able to get my phone set up on ESPN live score and get almost real time updates. It updates every 15 seconds and has a pseudo (crude) play by play. While not the same as watching on TV, it was very gratifying to see the score build in favor of the Red Wings. The folks at the dance recital must have thought there was something wrong with me when I would react. Final score Detroit 5, Pittsburgh 0.

We head back to Pittsburgh for Game 6 and a chance to bring the Cup back to Hockeytown! I hope to be in front of the TV watching, but there is rumors of another baseball game. Argh. Still, as much as I want to watch the Cup games, I wouldn’t trade the family events for them. Never any question of which one will get my attention. Go Wings!

Oh, the Dance Recital went very well tonight!
