New Website in Development
August 17, 2006
I guess I shouldnt have been so quick to talk about my “free time” and looking for some projects to work on. Suzanne got wind of it and decided that I should spend that energy on developing a new website for her. Sounds like a win – win situation to me.
For a while now, we have held the domain name Sonoita Singer and talked about developing it. Suzanne is a singer and does a lot of shows in the area, karaoke and sings at weddings and such. She has talked about wanting a site to showcase/advertise her singing abilitities. And so, Sonoita Singer shall soon be born.
It may take a while though because I have decided to learn a new CMS (Drupal) and she needs to help with what she wants on the site. Her part will most likely be the long pole in the tent. I do know that the site will give her a place to blog about singing, karaoke and anything else on her mind related to those topics. I also plan to have a bunch of her peformances or recorded songs available for listening and downloading. We are also talking about an events calendar showing when and where she will be singing. I will probably add some forums for her to discuss the art of singing with others. Certainly, there will be a contact page for folks to contact her if they are interested in hiring her or getting her to sing at an event.
I will try to keep yall updated on the progress of the site. Currently, there is a basic shell up there, but no content. I want to finish the shell and then theme the site for a better appearance. After that, the content comes and that will be up to Suzanne. Stop by there, let me know what you think and offer up any suggestions you might have.
Website Development Work
August 9, 2006
I havent had much time to really do a post lately. I have been very busy on some of my website and php projects. Everyone thinks its strange that a 42 year old Senior Manager comes home from work and codes until he is ready to fall asleep, which is usually pretty late. I probably average 5 hours of sleep a night. To me the coding is lots of fun and very stimulating to the brain. It sure beats watching television.
I currently maintain 3 “production” websites with a couple more in development and a couple that are used for test beds. The 3 live websites are:
They take up quite a bit of time, but a lot of it is just hacking around in various code segments getting it to do what I want or adding new features. Lately, I have been spending a lot of time on the Cruise Talk Central Forums modding the phpBB code base used for the forums. I have started to share my mods with others over at phpBB as a way of giving back to the community. In the past, I have tended to give the mods to anyone who has asked, but didnt want to be bothered with formatting the mod per rules or providing support. I will have to see how this goes and what the time constraints are. Maybe I should just join the phpBB development team or similar project to focus my energies. Anyways, if you havent visited Cruise Talk Central yet, stop by and check it out and let me know what you think.
On the homefront, the kids start back to school tomorrow. They are sort of excited and sort of not excited. They both enjoy school and learning, but by the end of the Summer have gotten used to goofing off all day. They are going to be real busy now since most days they will leave directly from school and head to Sierra Vista for dance class, football practice and cheerleading. I am pretty much alone at home until 8 or 9 when they get back. So things are quiet and I can work on my codes, but sometimes company would be nice. The kids are having a blast this summer with those activities, but it will be interesting to see if they burn out at all with school starting.
So far so good ont the NutriSystem diet. Three days down and it seems doable from a food quantity and taste standpoint. More info on Monday after the one week weigh in.
