Showstopper Scores

The scores and results are now posted on the Showstopper Website. Here are the scores and some past scores for comparative purpose.
Savannah’s Solo’s both got 79.5. Last year she got 79.0 at Regionals and 80.3 at Nationals.
Sean’s solo got a 79.6. The closest thing with which to compare that result would be his duet from last year with an 80.3 at Regionals and 81.0 at Nationals. A 79.6 for a first ever solo was very respectable as it was the highest solo score from our dance studio in the 9-11 age group.
Suzanne’s solo got an 83.9. We are not sure what she scored last year at Regionals, but she got an 84.6 at Nationals. She plans to perhaps add a bit more dance to the routine for Nationals in hopes of bringing her score up to a Platinum.
The age group winning Norteno scored a 107.8, and last year their folklorico dances got 108 at Regionals and 108.9. However the group from last year was much older, to the 107.8 with 1/2 of the group being under age 9 was a very respectable score.
Savannah’s lyrical class dance received an 107.2, and last year that group got 106.6 at Regionals and 107.3 at Nationals. I suspect that this group will do even better at Nationals as they continue to improve their dance technique.
This year the same class did a Jazz dance with a score of 107.0. They also joined the older girls tap class for a large group tap number. That dance went into the competitive category. Since their were so many more dancers in the competitive category and the online results only show the top ten places and ties, we don’t have the scores for this years tap routine. Last year’s tap recieved 107.2 at Regionals and 107.6 at Nationals.
Suzanne’s Folklorico class received 111.2 for their Tololoche dance. Last year at Nationals the Folklorico class earned a score of 111.4.
Finally Savannah’s Polynesian class received an 108.2. Last year at regionals the group received 107.2 and 108.3 at Nationals.
All of these scores were good enough to earn Gold Awards for the kids in all of their groups and solos. They will have to continue to improve if they want to continue to earn Golds or strive for Platinum. As the age groups increase, so does the required score to earn a the award levels.
Showstopper Dance Competition This Weekend

This weekend we will be journeying to Phoenix on our annual February trek for the Showstopper Regional Dance Competition. Once again, Suzanne and the kids will be competing in various dance categories. As usual, Mr Papa will be on the sidelines in the audience watching the performances.
This year, Savannah will be competing in six different dance categories. The dances she will be performing are:
- Lyrical – “I Call Your Name”
- Jazz – “I Want Money”
- Tap – “Just A Little Bit” from Happy Feet
- Clogging – “Kickin”
- Hip Hop (solo) – “Me and My Girls”
- Song and Dance (solo) – “Walking on Sunshine”
Sean is taking it a bit easier this year and will only be competing in two dances:
- Clogging – “Kickin”
- Clogging (solo) – “The Big One” by George Strait
In addition, the kids will be teaming up together for a duet:
- Folkloric (duet) – “Norteno”
This year, Suzanne will be competing in two dances:
- Folkloric – “El Tolol0che”
- Song and Dance (solo) – “New York, New York”
We usually have to get up there early on Friday for some of the competitions, but by the luck of the draw, this year all of the family’s dances are on Saturday. So we will go up Friday afternoon and get to come back Sunday morning. We will likely hang around the hotel in the morning a bit for the kids to have a swim.
Another pleasant surprise for the dance competition this year is that Suzanne’s Aunt and Uncle (Maureen and John) will be in Phoenix during this time and will be trying to join us on Saturday for some of the dances.
It should be fun and a nice tune up for the Showstopper National Dance Competition this summer at Disney Land.
