Summer Dance Recital

Last night was the first night of Suzanne’s and the kids’ summer dance recital. The show was about 2 1/2 hours but quite enjoyable.

Savannah did something like 11 dances last night. She was a busy girl changing costumes all night. She performed dances from genres such as lyrical, jazz, hip hop, Mexican folklorico and Spanish Flamenco. She did a great job. She worked so hard that she fell asleep in the car on the way home.

Sean did about 5 dances last night including dances from genres such as hip hop, break dancing and Mexican folklorico. The duet that he and Savannah did for El Jarabe Tapatio (Mexican Hat Dance), got a loud ovation from the crowd.

Last night was the first dance recital for Suzanne as an instructor at the dance studio. She is teaching pom pom dance and after the summer will likely be adding a Broadway style song and dance class. Her girls performed the opening number for the summer recital. In addition, at the start of the show, Suzanne sang Happy Birthday as it’s also the 10th Anniversary of the opening of the Alma Dolores Dance Studio. Suzanne did a number of Mexican folklorico and Spanish Flamenco dance numbers including a solo song and dance routine from Carmen.

What did Mr Papa do in the dance show? Nothing, nada, zippo, zilch. I just sat in the audience and enjoyed the show. They are still trying to get me to do the one routine that a group of Dads do at every dance recital. I continue to hold out, primarily because of the time and distance. The time actually isn’t that much except it’s in Sierra Vista which is 45 minutes away from home – after work – not high on my “want to do” list after getting home.

Tonight will be the second night. The kids and Suzanne will be doing a few less numbers tonight, though I plan to take the camera and try to snap a few pictures. Suzanne was nervous about her first dance recital and forgot it last night. So, maybe tomorrow, we can get some of those up here at Mr Papa’s World.

This summer recital is a good tune up for the kids before we all (yes, it appears I will go this year unless work travel pops up) head to Anaheim in July for the Showstopper National Dance Competition.

On a side note, we had another wildfire near us last night. It was about 5 or 10 miles away and threw up a bunch of smoke. When we got home last night, the air stunk of burnt materials and the smoke was hanging in the air. This morning, they appear to have it under control already and the smoke has already mostly disappeared.
