Sean’s football team went down to defeat again today. This time, the score was 26 – 6. The game was much closer than the score indicates though.
Sean’s team actually received the kickoff to begin the game and then held the ball for the entire first quarter in one of the longest drives I have seen. They very methodically and slowly moved the ball the length of the football field. The touchdown score came a minute or so into the second quarter. They actually looked like they knew what they were doing.
During the second quarter, their defense stopped the Douglas team three times until the last minute of play when they ran a double reverse and scored and on a fifty yard touchdown run. It was a very poor ending to a well played first half.
The second half was a completely different story. Our kids were very exhausted from the first half. The temperature was in the 90’s and by the second half were down to 12 players as 3 were injured in the first half. They became exhausted and sloppy. Still, they played well. They gave up two more 50+ yard plays in the second half. If they could just stop giving up the big play.
On offense in the second half, they drove inside the 20 yard line twice, but had penalties stop them both times. It was a very good effort by the boys. They are really at a disadvantage with the limited number of players.
The trip today to Douglas was uneventful. It was about a 90 minute drive each way. There was some nice scenery along the way. Still, its hard to spend 6 hours for a football game. It’s another one of the FEW minor inconveniences of living in the mountains of Arizona.
Trying again to make a comment. Hope it works this time.
Hurray! It did work. Guess things are all up and going now.
Sorry about Sean’s loss. Maybe next game with be a winner.
I think its going to a be another long season… he wants so bad to win a game… The kids just wear out in the second half… Was only about 90 yesterday, but you could just see they were sapped in the second half where they lost the game… they could use another half dozen or so kids…
