Back Home and Sean’s Spelling Bee

I got back home from my business trip yesterday evening. It was a long, hectic, but worthwhile week. The trip was to Florida and my hotel was right on the beach, but the weather didn’t really cooperate. It was very cloudy and a bit on the chilly side and even rained one day. Still, there are worse places to travel on business. Luckily, I don’t travel too often and probably wont be going anywhere until April.

Yesterday was also Sean’s County Spelling Bee competition. He qualified for this event by winning the school district competition. The spelling bee is part of the Scripps National Spelling Bee competition. The winner of the county bee gets to compete at the Arizona State Spelling Bee competition. Last year, Sean won the County Bee and finished 17th in the State as a 4th Grader. The competition is open for 4th – 8th grades.

In the competition yesterday, Sean finished in 3rd place as he misspelled “capillary” in the 10th round. He spelled it with 2 p’s instead of 2 l’s. The winner was decided in the 11th round. He was pretty happy with his finish and actually spelled more words correctly this year than last year when he won. The competition was stiffer this year.

So, no trip to Phoenix this year for the State Bee, but Sean says he will be even more ready for the competition next year.
