Bandera, Texas – Part III

Tuesday was our day to be San Antonio tourists. On the agenda were the River Walk, Mexican lunch, river boat tour, and the Alamo. We started out at the River Center Mall and then walked along the River Walk to one of the oldest and the largest restaurants on the San Antonio River, Casa Rio. We all sat at a table right along the river. We all enjoyed watching the people and the boats go by as we dined on our quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos and tortilla soup. Hailey and Holly even one the $5 prize offered by Brett and Mary Fran to any one who spotted someone they knew. Two of their friends from school went by on a river boat tour.

After lunch, Mom and Dad bought us all tickets for the River Boat tour. We enjoyed our 30 minute boat ride that takes riders around the river complex past sights like Hilton Plaza Rio, the world’s fasted constructed hotel. The rooms of this hotel were assembled furniture and all and then staked on top of each other like Legos. We also saw the Arneson River Theater and the many many Mexican restaurants along the river. We also learned that if you fall into the river and you are sober it is free, and if you fall into the river drunk, there is a $500 fine. After our river boat ride we headed over to see the most famous attraction of all in San Antonio, the Alamo. We enjoyed walking the grounds and taking pictures outside the famous site. Sean decided to spend his souvenir money and take home a piece of history with a T-shirt and plaque from the Alamo gift shop. After the Alamo, we headed back to the River Center Mall to do some more shopping. After that, we went to the famous Mercado, to do what else? More shopping. The Mercado features a vast array of Mexican imports, very much like visiting a market in Mexico. I enjoyed looking at all the Mexican crafts, dolls and costumes. After all the shopping we headed back to Bandera for the evening. Steve bought himself a wonderful baja jacket for $11.

On the way back, Steve stopped at the Churches Fried Chicken and got us all a chicken dinner. Then David took David Jr. and Sean to the camper for a sleep over. Steve and Brett then had put up with the ladies and the girls as we had spa night at the condo. We all got foot baths and soothing spa treatments on our feet. All this while we watched American Idol and Dancing With the Stars.

Comming Soon: Boardgames and the Water Park.
