It’s a nice Sunday afternoon of football here in Sonoita. After all, it’s Conference Championship Sunday!!! And the snow is falling again in Sonoita.
The weather service is again issued a heavy snow warning for us even though we usually dont get any when they do that. We are kind of on the cut line elevation wise for a fairly large accumulation. They are predicting 2 – 5 inches for elevations between 3000 and 5000 feet. For elevations 5000 – 8000 feet, they say expect 5 – 10 inches. We are right at 5000 feet here in Sonoita. Above 8000 feet, they say you could see 10 – 16 inches.
We go through this every winter. With mountain snow, its all about the elevation. I think they play it safe too, because we rarely get any accumulation of snow when they say we could. However, its usually not this kind of predicted accumulation. The kids are once again excited.
Our rural, mountain, high dessert area sure looks beautiful when the snow is falling…
Update: Snow continues to fall… Maybe in an inch or so on the ground… the kids school has already called to say tomorrow will be a delayed start at 10:00 am.
Update 2: probably boring ya with these updates, but humor me… Maybe 2-3 inches on the ground as I head to bed… kids tell me the road is covered in snow… temps tonight in mid to upper 20’s, so I will sleep in and wait until daylight before heading to work across the mountain pass… Very light snow falling now… heaviest may be behind us…
I know the kids (and maybe Mr Papa, too) will enjoy having a delayed opening today!
Is it beautiful?

School has been canceled today… I headed into work and turned around and came home… the roads are just a sheet of ice… 15 degrees this morning and cloud covered, so its not going to melt anytime soon… I was about the only guy on the road… decided it wasnt the best idea to go across the mountain pass… we are still under a snow advisory as 2 – 4 more inches are predicted during the day today, so Tucson would not be the place to be… Our total snow was probably 3 – 4 inches, but the ice on the roads is the issue… Without snow plows, they will stay icy until it warms up… Incidentally, the city of Tucson got about 2 inches of snow too…
We are taking some pictures this morning and will get some put up here today…
